My Adventures as an Illustrator: The Definitive Edition
My Adventures as an Illustrator: The Definitive
The life of America’s most beloved artist, in his own words―back in print with restored text and drawings, new illustrations, and more The wit, humanity, and many-sided talent of Norman Rockwell (1894–1978) are on full display in his classic autobiography. Rockwell’s New York City boyhood, his apprentice days at the Art Students League, his first fateful visit to the Saturday Evening Post, his adventures abroad, his move to rural Vermont―all are recounted with a mix of sharp observation and self-deprecating humor. Throughout Rockwell invites the reader into his artistic process: he introduces his favorite models, candidly reveals his biggest flops, and documents the creation of a Post cover step by step. This Definitive Edition restores the original 1960 text of My Adventures as an Illustrator, as well as the playful vignettes that Rockwell drew to head each chapter. Thanks to a massive image digitization effort undertaken by the Norman Rockwell Museum, it is also illustrated with more than 150 of Rockwell’s paintings and drawings, many of which highlight lesser-known aspects of his work. A new introduction by the artist’s granddaughter Abigail Rockwell adds reference value, as do an illustrated chronology and an annotated bibliography prepared by the staff of th...

Norman Rockwell's son, Tom, has put together the absolute finest collection of his father's bounteous body of work, illustrations that bespeak the golden glow of pre- and post-WWII Americana. Rockwell senior, who said he depicted life as I would like it to be,” chronicled iconic visions of American life: the Thanksgiving turkey, soda fountains, ice skating on the pond, and small-town boys playing baseball-not to mention the beginning of the civil rights movement. Now, the best-selling collection of Rockwell's most beloved illustrations, organized by decade, is available in a refreshed edition. With more than 150 images-oil paintings, watercolors, and rare black-and-white sketches--this is an uncommonly faithful Rockwell treasury. The original edition has sold nearly 200,000 copies.

Norman Rockwell is often associated with the series of witty covers he executed for The Saturday Evening Post. But, in fact, he had a much wider impact as an artist and illustrator: story illustrations for the Ladies' Home Journal, covers for popular magazines such as Boy's Life, Literary Digest, and Life; journalistic interpretations of social themes and portraits of political figures for Look magazine; and advertisements for corporate giants like AT&T and Kellogg cereal. The 30 images presented here highlight Norman Rockwell's entire artistic vision, capturing the spirit of America's most beloved pictorial storyteller.

1994 NORMAN ROCKWELL #2840 Souvenir Sheet of 4 x 50 cents US Postage Stamps
1994 NORMAN ROCKWELL #2840 Souvenir Sheet of 4
Issued on July 1, 1994 in Stockbridge, MA., this Souvenir Sheet of four 50 cent stamps honor Norman Rockwell centennial of his birth. On January 6, 1941, as World War II raged in Europe, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt addressed Congress. He submitted that any settlement reached after the war should be based upon "four freedoms": freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. Norman Rockwell created four paintings, each titled after one of the freedoms, that visually idealize the concepts of Roosevelt's speech. More than one million people saw the paintings on a 16-city tour to promote war-bonds. The tour was a tremendous success, and over 30 million was raised for the cause. Rockwell's "Triple Self-Portrait" is a wonderful example of the good-natured humor found throughout much of his work.

Enduring Ideals: Rockwell, Roosevelt & the Four
Enduring Ideals: Rockwell, Roosevelt & the Four Freedoms is the catalog for the first comprehensive traveling exhibition devoted to Norman Rockwell's iconic depictions of FDR's Four Freedoms. Enduring Ideals illuminates both the historic context in which FDR articulated the Four FreedomsFreedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fearand the role of Rockwell’s paintings in bringing them to life for millions of people, rallying the public behind the War effort and changing the tenor of the times. In telling the story of how Rockwell’s works were transformed from a series of paintings into a national movement, the exhibition also demonstrates the power of illustration to communicate ideas and inspire change. In addition to his celebrated paintings of the Four Freedoms, the exhibition brings together numerous other examples of painting, illustration, and more, by both Rockwell and a broad range of his contemporaries―from J.C. Leyendecker and Mead Schaeffer, to Ben Shahn, Dorothea Lange, and Gordon Parks, among others―as well as historical documents, photographs, videos, and artifacts; interactive digital displays; and immersive settings. While exploring the response of an earlier generation to the plea for defense of universal freedoms, ...

Norman Rockwell was an American painter who lived from 1894 to 1978. Have you ever heard the expression 'A picture is worth a thousand words'? Well, Norman Rockwell's paintings are good examples of that. As you look at them, you will discover that each one tells a story. You'll find out more and more about the people he painted--where they live, what they like to do, and what kind of trouble they get into--the longer you gaze at the pictures. You can even imagine what they are thinking! From 1916 to 1962, Norman Rockwell created the 22 paintings in this book to be covers of a magazine called The Saturday Evening Post. They are shown as small reproductions on the inside front and back covers. When you color these pictures, you might want to try to copy his colors, or you might decide to use your own. The last page of this book is blank so that you can draw and color your own picture that tells a story. It can be about you and people you know, like your family, your friends, or your teachers. Try to tell the whole story, as Norman Rockwell did, by putting in as much detail as you can.Pomegranate's Norman Rockwell Coloring Book features 22 comical drawings from Rockwell's iconic Saturday Evening Post illustrations.
